Cooling Capacity Margin Calculator

Calculate cooling capacity margin and reserve from total IT load, installed cooling capacity, and desired safety factor.

The total power consumed by all IT equipment (servers, storage, networking). This heat must be removed by the cooling system.
kW
Total rated cooling capacity of all CRAC/CRAH units combined. Should exceed IT load for redundancy.
kW
Additional cooling margin above IT load for spikes and growth. ASHRAE recommends 15-30%. Factor 1.2 = 20% extra.
x
Number of redundant cooling units (N+1=1, N+2=2). Standby units excluded from available capacity.
units
Total CRAC/CRAH units installed including redundant ones. Used to calculate per-unit and effective capacity.
